So got a few things to get out before we get to the events.
Smartmouth Brewing has been working towards canning their Rule G, Alter Ego and Murphy’s Law.  Well they just released what their cans will look like.  I got to see the look great.  Don’t you think?

    Friday Beer:

Danny from Valley Distributing Pours VA beer!

    Shooting Creek Rebel Ale
    $1.95 / 12oz
    $10.50 / 6Pk

A great session beer for hot or cold weather. Brewed with malted barley and rye for a unique flavor-quenching zip, rich malt character, and deep amber glow. Moderately bittered using Cascade hops grown by Shooting Creek Farm brewery.
    5.8% ABV

    Wild Wolf Trooopers Alley
    $1.95 / 12oz
    $10.50 / 6Pk

In 1777, some former lands of Dr. Thomas Walker were laid out into lots along Main and Water streets. On Main Street, numerous hotels and small lodges were established to house the itinerant men who traveled along the Great Road. Hidden down the hill in between Main and Water was a small sidestreet named Troopers Alley. Stepping out the back doors from those Main Street hotels into the Alley, men could find dens of “evil fame,” gambling, and strong ale. Like those establishments, the intense hop bill of this American-style IPA will tempt you with citrus aroma and bitterness. A discrete malt bill of 2-row Pale Malt forms the backbone and a blend of Crystal/Caramel 40 is added for slight sweetness and color to draw you in to the varied hop experience. Simcoe and Columbus hops added throughout the boil provide an alluring bitterness. An enticing blend of Columbus, Amarillo, Simcoe, Cascade, and Centennial balances the bitterness with a fragrant aroma and pleasing finish. 135 IBUs, 9 SRM, 5.9% ABV, American pale, Crystal and Caramel 40 malts. Columbus, Amarillo, Simcoe, Cascade, and Centennial hops.
    5.9% ABV

    Shooting Creek Buffalo Brown
    $1.95 / 12oz
    $10.50 / 6Pk

Whet your whistle with our brown ale and you’ll never look back. Bold and hoppy, our version of an American classic features the coffee-like flavors of darkly roasted malts with the bitter cocoa of somewhat lighter kilned malts. Hopped with our own citrusy hops, of course.
    7.6% ABV

  • 11 Apr 2014 16:00 – 21:00
Red Light Rodeo at Hardywood & Amperage Ale at Hardywood Park #Richmond
The tasting room opens at 4pm with Olio Cart VCU and a selection of seasonal drafts including Amperage Ale (growler fills too)! Red Light Rodeo plays at 5:30pm!Brewed and powered by the energy of the human spirit, the Amperage Ale is a tribute to cycling and green power. Cyclist pedaled and generated energy that powered our pilot brewing system to produce a bright, session pale ale filling out at 4.5% ABV and 45 IBU. Brewed with Wheat and Rye, and hopped with Simcoe and Sorachi Ace, this beer is perfect for quenching thirst after and afternoon ride.Often referred to as a “bluegrass power trio” Red Light Rodeo has turned heads across Virginia since their start, late in the summer of 2011. This three piece offers high-energy, boot-stomping bluegrass with hints of Country, Western, and Rockabilly. Red Light Rodeo is a roots/bluegrass/folk/country trio featuring Zachary Hudgins, Wes Canter and Zach Mac Miller with Jake Sellers.

This small brewery from Pennsylvania burst onto our scene last Fall with their Maple Mistress Pumpkin Ale and Schnicklefritz Chocolate Cherry Stout (the labels had a fair amount of ‘bursting’ as well, from the cleavage of their pin-up girls), and has since been recognized as the Best New Brewery in Pennsylvania from Ratebeer.com. For Friday we will be pouring their Stonefly IPA, Hop Suplex Double IPA, and North Ramp Coffee Stout from 4-7pm. Hope to see you here!

Rare Piedmont, Italy Beer Dinner at Secco Wine Bar #Richmond

Rare Piedmont, Italy Beer Dinner Tuesday, April 8th at 6PM

w/ Ron Fischer of B. United Imports
piedmontmap Join us next Tuesday night for a celebration of the “other” beverage of Piemonte–BEER!

No, we’re not talking about Peroni. Some of the most exciting beers are coming out of a new, exploding scene in northern Italy right now. We’re talking about rare, crazy-complex, wild-wild-west brews from a region better known for truffles and age worthy reds.

Beer veteran and superfan Ron Fischer of B. United Imports will be on hand to guide us through these beauties along with special pairings from Chef Mike.

If you are a fan of wild yeast, gypsy brewers, ancient zymurgy, flemish sours or barrel aging, or just brew-curious, you owe it to yourself to sign up! Chef’s five-course pairing menu will be announced soon, but until then here’s our beer lineup:

Birra Baladin “Isaac” (light, citrusy blanche)

Grado Plato “Strada S. Felice” (amber brewed with chestnuts)

Birrificio Montegiaco Lover Beer “Madamin” (deep amber barrel aged sour)

Birra Baladin “Etruska” (their spiced, malty, barrrel-aged version of a 3-part cooperative, multi-brewery quest for an ancient beer recipe)

Grado Plato “Cantus Caeli” (beer-wine-mead hybrid aged in oak)
People. Grab your favorite beer nerd. This is gonna be good!
Tickets are $55 per person ($70 all-inclusive with tax & tip) and can be purchased via paypal here:
