Thirsty Thursday at Hop & Wine #Fredericksburg

    Beer Trivia:
Who was the first American to brew lager?
    A.John Wagner
    B.George Washington
    C.August Busch
    D.John Miller

    “Thirsty Thursday”

Schneider Aventinus- ruby colored wheat doppelbock with a creamy fine head. Strong notes of ripe bananas, raisins and plums meet liquorice and roasty aromesbalanced(christmas cookies) or blue cheese.
    ABV96 Pts.
    RB Score- 100 Pts.

Firestone Walker Double Jack IPA?- Double Jack IPA is our first ever Imperial IPA. It features a big malty middle to cloak the high alcohol and mouth puckering hop bitterness. Huge tangerine, grapefruit and juicy fruit aroma blossom over the herbal blue basil and malt earthiness of this aggressive beer. Best enjoyed in moderation.
ABV- 9.5% BA Score- 97 Pts.
    RB Score- 100 Pts.

HeBrew Brown appearance with a lasting tan head and lacing. Belgian aroma, banana, clove, adding rye spices, bitter hops, citrus fruit, caramel malts, cinnamon and toasted grains. Similar flavor, bittersweet, spiced and light Belgian notes. Medium to full body, creamy and pretty smooth
    RB88 Pts.

Stone Imperial Russian Stout- s because “ice cold” is certainly not the appropriate way to serve the beer. Nearly without exception, the darker, richer and more alcoholic a brew is, the warmer the serving temperature should be. The Stone Imperial Stout label describes the brew as being “intensely aromatic (notes of anise, black currants, coffee, roastiness and alcohol) and heavy on the palate…expect this mysterious brew to pour like used motor oil and taste even heavier! Serve at 55 degrees.”
    ABV11% 97 Pts.
    RB Score- 100 Pts.

    Beer Trivia Answer:

    (A) John Wagner – in 1840, in a small Philadelphia brewery in the rear of his house on St. John Street.

    Friday Beer:

Danny from Valley Distributing Pours VA beer!

    Shooting Creek Rebel Ale
    $1.95 / 12oz
    $10.50 / 6Pk

A great session beer for hot or cold weather. Brewed with malted barley and rye for a unique flavor-quenching zip, rich malt character, and deep amber glow. Moderately bittered using Cascade hops grown by Shooting Creek Farm brewery.
    5.8% ABV

    Wild Wolf Trooopers Alley
    $1.95 / 12oz
    $10.50 / 6Pk

In 1777, some former lands of Dr. Thomas Walker were laid out into lots along Main and Water streets. On Main Street, numerous hotels and small lodges were established to house the itinerant men who traveled along the Great Road. Hidden down the hill in between Main and Water was a small sidestreet named Troopers Alley. Stepping out the back doors from those Main Street hotels into the Alley, men could find dens of “evil fame,” gambling, and strong ale. Like those establishments, the intense hop bill of this American-style IPA will tempt you with citrus aroma and bitterness. A discrete malt bill of 2-row Pale Malt forms the backbone and a blend of Crystal/Caramel 40 is added for slight sweetness and color to draw you in to the varied hop experience. Simcoe and Columbus hops added throughout the boil provide an alluring bitterness. An enticing blend of Columbus, Amarillo, Simcoe, Cascade, and Centennial balances the bitterness with a fragrant aroma and pleasing finish. 135 IBUs, 9 SRM, 5.9% ABV, American pale, Crystal and Caramel 40 malts. Columbus, Amarillo, Simcoe, Cascade, and Centennial hops.
    5.9% ABV

    Shooting Creek Buffalo Brown
    $1.95 / 12oz
    $10.50 / 6Pk

Whet your whistle with our brown ale and you’ll never look back. Bold and hoppy, our version of an American classic features the coffee-like flavors of darkly roasted malts with the bitter cocoa of somewhat lighter kilned malts. Hopped with our own citrusy hops, of course.
    7.6% ABV

Red Light Rodeo at Hardywood & Amperage Ale at Hardywood Park #Richmond
The tasting room opens at 4pm with Olio Cart VCU and a selection of seasonal drafts including Amperage Ale (growler fills too)! Red Light Rodeo plays at 5:30pm!Brewed and powered by the energy of the human spirit, the Amperage Ale is a tribute to cycling and green power. Cyclist pedaled and generated energy that powered our pilot brewing system to produce a bright, session pale ale filling out at 4.5% ABV and 45 IBU. Brewed with Wheat and Rye, and hopped with Simcoe and Sorachi Ace, this beer is perfect for quenching thirst after and afternoon ride.Often referred to as a “bluegrass power trio” Red Light Rodeo has turned heads across Virginia since their start, late in the summer of 2011. This three piece offers high-energy, boot-stomping bluegrass with hints of Country, Western, and Rockabilly. Red Light Rodeo is a roots/bluegrass/folk/country trio featuring Zachary Hudgins, Wes Canter and Zach Mac Miller with Jake Sellers.

Saucony Creek Tasting at Wine Warehouse #Charlottesville
TASTING: SAUCONY CREEK FRIDAY APRIL 11th 4-7pmWith the arrival of two new Saucony Creek beers by this Thursday, we finally have enough of a critical mass to have a representative tasting. This small brewery from Pennsylvania burst onto our scene last Fall with their Maple Mistress Pumpkin Ale and Schnicklefritz Chocolate Cherry Stout (the labels had a fair amount of ‘bursting’ as well, from the cleavage of their pin-up girls), and has since been recognized as the Best New Brewery in Pennsylvania from Ratebeer.com. For Friday we will be pouring their Stonefly IPA, Hop Suplex Double IPA, and North Ramp Coffee Stout from 4-7pm. Hope to see you here!
