    Corks and Kegs March Madness

Corks and Kegs March Madness starts

    March 1!!!

What is all the madness about?

It is a month long beer tournament similar in format to the NCAA basketball tournament. First round match ups are set up by our manager and staff. Match ups after that are determined by you!

Each evening in March we will have a “game”. Game times will be 5:30 to 7:30.

During the above time period, you simply taste two unidentified beer samples and put your vote in the ballot box for the one you like the better.

We will tally up the votes each night and post results and the identity of the beers on Facebook.

The winner moves on to the next round and the loser gets on the beer bus back to its shelf spot.

This year’s tournament will have an interesting wrinkle as Belgian style beers will be included in the field. What impact will they have?

So plan to come in each evening in March, do the blind taste test, vote and then watch for results on FB.

    Friday, Beer Tasting:

     21st Amendment Sneak Attack
    $1.95/ 12oz can
    $10.95/ 6pk

Hazy yellow color. Cardamon sneaks through an aroma of hay, black pepper, and flowers. Taste has the nice refreshing and dry aspects of a saison. Hint of banana. High level of carbonation.
    6.2% ABV

    Allagash Dubbel
    $2.85/ 12oz
    $10.95/ 4pk

Deep red color. A nutty and caramel sweetness nose with a hint of cocoa. Starts sweet but finishes dry. Flavor of cocoa powder, dark fruits.
    7% ABV

    Weyerbacher Merry Monks
    $2.45/ 12oz
    $13.25/ 6pk

Straw bordering on gold color. Very Belgian yeast nose, candied banana, cookie dough. Well carbonated, very effervescent. The full body fills the mouth, creamy mid palette, and finishes quite dry. Drinks less than its stated alcohol level.
    9.3% ABV

    2011 Green Flash Grand Cru
    Belgian Strong Dark Ale
    $9.95/ 22oz

Dark brown color. Nose of heated raisins, spicy clove, light smoke in the back; breakfast sausage like. Smoke lingers in the background of the taste and is a good counter to the semi sweet, brown sugar, dark fruit flavors. Like many Belgians, it starts sweet but finishes dry. Rather drinkable for it’s alcohol level. This beer has aged quite gracefully and could go another year easily.
    9.1% ABV
