Hello!! It’s a new year and things are starting to get hot all around
First I’ll start with a new brewery announcement. A good friend and an
icon of the Richmond Beer Scene Neil Burton has been making head way
into setting up his own brewery. Well they got their location and now Strangeways Brewing has a Facebook page. Check them out and follow their progress. Now if you are not familiar with Neil, he’s actually done a lot for brewing in the state. He was instrumental in getting HB359 passed. This bill allows for alternate proprietorship
for brewing. So it’s good to see him continue on with his passioning.
If you are a fan of BFM and their especially popular beer Bon Chien.
Then hopefully you saw the little write up that Jerome wrote about
Mekong and The Birch Bar. If not, here it is:

Le premier, à Richmond en Virginia, le Mekong avec 50 fûts de 20 litres de consommation annuel nous a proposé 3 millésimes au fût le même soir (09, 10,11). Exceptionnel !
Le deuxième à 2 heures de route de là, The Birch à Norfolk avec
différentes finitions de ce nectar à la pression.
Bravo à eux deux qui auront consommé presque 8 barriques en 1 année !

their upcoming Sidamo Coffee Stout.
Local Suds is doing another Brew Tour in Richmond, Goochland and Ashland. This is scheduled for Jan 12. Tickets are on sale now! If you thought about going buy those tickets now. Also follow them on Facebook and check out their post on how you can win a pair of free tickets.
Finally, Mekong has already started to post events for their 18th Anniversary starting with a huge selection of barrel aged beers being tapped the week before Easter. Unfortunately,
it’ll be during Lent and I’ll be on 40 days of No Alcohol. Darn it!

Fri Jan 4th:
If you haven’t heard there is a new Richmond Restaurant called Saison that recently opened. So today they will be
tapping a pin of Hardywood Paloma Singel starting at 4pm.
Also tapping a pin is Hardywood of their Tiramisu, a Russian Imperial
Stout with cocoa, espresso, and orange peel. Plus they will have music
by Jonathan Wheelock. Starts at 4:30pm
The Capital Ale House locations in Richmond and Fredericksburg are
having their monthly Ales of Crypt. Come out to one of the locations for
a cellared keg they pulled for today. Click the link to see who is
Sat Jan 5th:
Hardywood Park is set to release their Sidamo Coffee Stout today. The tap room will open
early for this release at 11am. They will have some food vendors on hand.
The Porch (Whole Foods Virginia Beach) will host the
folks of O’Connor Brewing in house to tap a special firkin of their
brew plus four others on tap. Runs from 4-7pm.
Mon Jan 7th:
Beer Run is hosting their 3rd Annual Virginia Craft Beer Festival all week.
Stop in for select Virginia Brews plus they are giving away a 64oz
growler if you are getting a growler filled of Virginia Beer.
Thur Jan 10th:
Devils Backbone Outpost and Basecamp will be releasing their latest creation in
their Trail Blazer series called Dark Abby. A Belgian inspired Dubbel
ale, Dark Abby is the sister beer to Azrael.
The Porch (Whole Foods Virginia Beach) is hosting
their Beer School. Starts at 6:30. Watch my twitter feed to see what
